FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE : Local Weightlifters off to Nationals Calgary, Alberta – May 15, 2009 – Three Olympic Weightlifters from one club in Calgary are competing at a National competition Some of Canada’s strongest people are meeting in Kelowna, BC this weekend for the Canadian Senior Weightlifting Championships. Alberta is sending 5 athletes to compete at this event, with 3 of those coming from the Tork Weightlifting Club in Calgary. “[There] should be new results,” said Henrik Grigoryan, the coach for the Calgarian athletes. Even though he wishes the team would be larger, Henrik is pleased with the training program the group has gone through in preparing for the two-day event. Attending the competition for his second year in a row, Chris Terner says he feels more confident this time around. As a competitor in one of the toughest weight classes, the 77kg lifter is hoping to move up from 8th place to 5th place in the country. Another athlete returning for his second year is Cory Coehoorn, who is expected to bring back a silver medal in the 105kg class. Attending the competition for his first time will be one of Alberta’s top junior lifters, Dustin Oranchuk. Qualifying to compete under a wildcard system, the 19 year old is planning on raising his current Provincial Junior records in the 94kg class; a feat he has accomplished six times already this season. The next weightlifting competition in Alberta will be held in Calgary on May 30, at the Colonel James Walker Building on the SAIT campus. This will be the final competition for what has turned out to be a successful season. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend. | | MS Word 2003 Document | | |

| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE : Local Club Proves To Be Best in the West Regina, Saskatchewan - March 28, 2009 – Five Olympic Weightlifters from one club in Calgary win medals in a semi-national competition. It was an all-metal performance for the Tork Weightlifting Club of Calgary at the 2009 Western Canadian Weightlifting Championships in Regina this past weekend. All five lifters from the club that composed the 8 member team came home with medals. “It was an excellent competition,” said Henrik Grigoryan, the Alberta Provincial coach who is also part of the club. Tork’s athletes came home with one Gold, three Silver, and one Bronze medal which was the main contribution for Alberta having the strongest male team amongst all the western Provinces of Canada. Chris Terner, who competed in the 85kg class, finished as the second best male lifter overall. The host province, Saskatchewan, won the Best Team trophy. Jon Astolfi, President of Tork, and the Silver medallist in the Super Heavyweight category stated, “we need women.” Team Alberta did not send any female athletes to the competition, which significantly reduces any chance of winning the overall title. “It’s a great, high-intensity workout for anyone looking for a physical challenge,” said Astolfi, who hopes the situation changes for next years competition hosted by Manitoba. | | MS Word 2003 Document | MS Excel 2003 Document of club results | |
